Sciatica Treatment in Uijeongbu, Korea

Pain radiating from the lower back or buttock down the back of the leg, caused by irritation of the sciatic nerve roots.

In short: Pain radiating from the lower back or buttock down the back of the leg, caused by irritation of the sciatic nerve roots.

What is Sciatica?

Sciatica describes a symptom rather than a single disease: pain travelling along the sciatic nerve path into the leg, often below the knee. The most common cause is a lumbar disc herniation, followed by spinal stenosis and, less often, piriformis syndrome.

Common symptoms

  • Burning or electric pain down one leg
  • Numbness or tingling in the foot
  • Pain worse on sitting
  • Weakness in the foot or ankle

What causes it?

  • Herniated disc
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Piriformis syndrome
  • Spondylolisthesis

How it is diagnosed at Yonsei Leaders

Examination including straight-leg raise, MRI and sometimes EMG to identify the nerve root.

Non-surgical treatment options

  • Selective Spinal Nerve Block: An injection that calms an irritated spinal nerve root, confirmed on C-Arm imaging, to reduce radiating pain into the arm or leg.
  • C-Arm Guided Spinal Injection: A spinal injection delivered under live X-ray (C-Arm) guidance so medication reaches the exact inflamed nerve or joint, with no incision and no…
  • Epidural Adhesiolysis: A thin, flexible catheter is guided into the epidural space to loosen scar-like adhesions around nerves and wash out inflammatory substances, an…
  • Nerve Conduction Study and EMG: Electrical tests (TruTrace EMG) that measure how well nerves and muscles work, to diagnose pinched nerves, carpal tunnel syndrome and neuropathy.
  • Manual Therapy: One-to-one hands-on treatment by a trained therapist to release tight muscles, mobilise stiff joints and correct posture and alignment.

Your plan is tailored after examination; many patients combine a targeted procedure with manual therapy and exercise for longer-lasting results.

Self-care tips

  • Keep walking gently
  • Avoid long periods of sitting
