Real-time ultrasound (E-CUBE 8 DIA) lets the doctor see tendons, ligaments, bursae and nerves while injecting, for accurate soft-tissue and joint treatment.

In short: Real-time ultrasound (E-CUBE 8 DIA) lets the doctor see tendons, ligaments, bursae and nerves while injecting, for accurate soft-tissue and joint treatment.

What is Ultrasound-Guided Injection?

Ultrasound shows muscles, tendons, ligaments, bursae and nerves in real time without radiation. At Yonsei Leaders the doctor uses an E-CUBE 8 DIA ultrasound both to diagnose soft-tissue problems in the clinic room and to guide the needle during injections into the shoulder, elbow, wrist, knee, hip and foot. Seeing the target improves accuracy and avoids nearby vessels and nerves.

Conditions it is used for

  • Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy and Tear: Damage to the shoulder's stabilising tendons causing pain and weakness lifting the arm, especially overhead.
  • Calcific Tendinitis of the Shoulder: Calcium deposits in the shoulder tendons causing sudden, severe shoulder pain, often treated effectively with shockwave therapy.
  • Tennis Elbow: Pain on the outside of the elbow from overused forearm tendons, common in office workers, cooks and parents as well as racket players.
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: Compression of the median nerve at the wrist causing numbness and tingling in the thumb, index and middle fingers, often worse at night.
  • Trigger Finger: A finger that catches, locks or clicks when bending, caused by a thickened tendon sheath.
  • De Quervain's Tenosynovitis: Painful inflammation of thumb tendons at the wrist, common in new parents and heavy smartphone users.
  • Plantar Fasciitis: Sharp heel pain with the first steps in the morning, caused by overload of the thick band under the foot.
  • Knee Osteoarthritis: Wear of the knee cartilage causing pain, stiffness and swelling, especially on stairs and after walking.
  • Pes Anserine Bursitis: Pain on the inner side of the knee below the joint, common in women and people with knee arthritis.

Frequently asked questions

Why use ultrasound instead of X-ray?

Ultrasound shows soft tissues such as tendons, ligaments and nerves, which X-ray cannot, and involves no radiation. C-Arm X-ray is preferred for deep spinal targets.

Can ultrasound diagnose my problem without an MRI?

For many tendon, ligament and bursa problems, ultrasound in the clinic gives enough information to start treatment. If something deeper is suspected, the doctor will recommend MRI.

Is the injection painful?

A fine needle is used and the target is visible, which keeps discomfort brief. Most people tolerate it well.
